Jiffy Mart Teams Up to help The Westminster Boys & Girls Club

November 28, 2016

Westminster, MD – Gone are the days of large crowds making their way to McDaniel college, braving the summer heat, to watch their team practice for free.  Gone are those same crowds eating, drinking and shopping the local businesses surrounding those practices.  Most of all, gone is the opportunity for the team to engage the area families, especially those who cannot afford the expense of game day at the stadium.

One local business is trying to change that, even if it means bringing back only player at a time. Baltimore Football fans were out in full force on November 28th to see their star running back, Terrance West, and All Pro Punter, Sam Koch at the Jiffy Mart charity autograph signing event.  The event was held at the Westminster Greene Turtle, where they and Jiffy Mart, teamed up with Sam and Terrance to help raise both awareness and funds for the Westminster Boys & Girls Club.

On behalf of the community and the event sponsors, the Jiffy Mart team proudly made a presentation of funds totaling $3,300 to the Westminster Boys and Girls Club!

Since 2012, Jiffy Mart has been organizing Baltimore football autograph signings.  The impact of training camp leaving Westminster was felt by many area businesses, including Jiffy Mart, but these autograph signings are not an attempt to recoup lost sales.

It was in 2012 that Jiffy Mart learned that Carroll County Food Sunday was operating in a deficit.  That July, partnering with Baltimore punter and Westminster resident, Sam Koch, they organized their first charity autograph signing where anyone sponsoring a milk voucher for $4 (Sam’s number and roughly the cost of a gallon of milk), could have something signed by the All Pro punter.

Since that signing, they have organized similar events each year with past and present players including Bruce Laird, Tom Matte, Fred Miller, Rick Volk, Michael McCrary, Justin Tucker, Morgan Cox, Marlon Brown, Marshall Yanda, Brandon Williams, Michael Campanaro, Crockett Gillmore, Tavon Young, Kamalei Correa, Willie Henry, Chris Moore, and Matt Judon.  These events are often held at The Greene Turtle and on these evenings you can find them with a packed house.  Even so, these events may not have poured money back into the local economy but maybe a little hope into the organizations that help so many in need within the area.

The goal for each event is simple, to create a family affordable, Baltimore football style event, while at the same time raising funds and awareness for a local organization which helps those in need.  Those organizations have included the Boys and Girls Club, Carroll County Food Sunday and the Shepherds Staff.

These events may not be free as it once was to watch training camp, but you’ll find the ticket price more than reasonable and Jiffy Mart always makes sure the value is worth more than the ticket price itself.

Owned by Tevis Oil, Inc., Jiffy Mart currently operates five stores in Carroll County, Maryland. Two locations are in Westminster, two are in Finksburg, and one is in Hampstead.
